Careers & Enterprise matchmaking

3 October 2016

Careers & Enterprise matchmaking Left to right: Enterprise Adviser Mohammed Islam, Training 4 U Services (UK) Ltd, Jenny Lam, School Work Experience Co-ordinator, Kamran Ahmed, Assistant Headteacher

We are delighted to unveil the first of our South East Midlands schools matched to an Enterprise Adviser as part of our Careers & Enterprise programme.

In September SEMLEP's Enterprise Coordinator Peter Rayner introduced Mohammed Islam from Training 4 U Services to Icknield High School in Luton. Kamran Ahmed, Assistant Headteacher and Jenny Lam, Work Experience Coordinator, have welcomed the opportunities Mohammed will provide to expand their employer engagement.

Peter explained: "Mohammed will now work with the school’s leadership team to offer advice on their careers and enterprise plans from an employer’s perspective. He will also connect the school with his own network of business contacts and with the contacts of the wider network of Enterprise Advisers across SEMLEP. This will help to provide additional opportunities for students to engage more frequently with the world of work and be better informed about their future career options."

This was the first introduction of an Enterprise Adviser to a school across the local authority areas of Luton, Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

Many more of these introductions will be taking place over the coming weeks, in order to build a strong Enterprise Adviser Network that will benefit young people across the whole of the SEMLEP area.

SEMLEP's Careers and Enterprise Programme is part of a national programme set up to inspire and prepare young people for the fast-changing world of work.

It aims to link businesses with schools and colleges so that 11 to 19-year-olds gain an understanding of growth business sectors, make the most of opportunities within the labour market, develop relevant skills and choose appropriate qualifications.
