This scheme sees improvements to junctions along key corridors in Northampton town centre, resulting in improved journey times and reliability.

Projected Outputs: This project will benefit 2700 new homes by 2022, with 5 new digital totems, 120 journey time sensors, 15 variable message signs, 10 smart junctions with bus priority, 30 bus stops with real time passenger information, 6 LEV charging points and an electric bike hire network

October 2019

  • Work finalised to enable the installation of five SMILER totems during Q3.  A sixth totem has been discussed and agreed in principle, with installation possible during this same timescale.
  • Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle Strategy and Electric Bike feasibility studies presented to Boroughs and Districts within the County.  Working group to be established to co-ordinate approach to charging infrastructure and bidding opportunities.
  • Connected Bus Stop technology and app included as part of University of Northampton Freshers Week event.  The event was a success with 300 students signing up to test the app.  Plan to roll-out more widely and to new developments in Q4.
  • Planning underway for latter stages of project including additional technology and legacy arrangements.
