Stepping into Care

27th November 2019

Stepping into Care is providing 24 unemployed or economically inactive women from the black and minority ethnic community with an 18-week employability programme. The programme will help participants to either secure employment in the care sector, or to progress onto accredited learning, helping participants to gain skills and qualifications needed to gain employment.

The programme is made up of a range of training, including first aid, health and safety, customer service skills, food safety and introduction to care, as well as pre-employment skills training, including CV writing, job search, interview skills and budgeting skills. To support participants to gain practical experience of working in the care sector, participants will have the opportunity to undertake work placements in local care homes.

Support for each participant will be provided by a skilled project worker who will meet the women on a regular basis, helping to remove specific barriers through 1-2-1 sessions and coaching.

By the end of the project, women will have gained soft skills, including confidence, self-esteem, motivation, communication skills, time management skills and customer service skills.
