AI Platform at Bedford College

21st January 2021

Bedford College is looking to provide an Artificial Intelligence Maths and English Learning platform.

The project encompasses software that supports a teaching and learning platform that enables the improved learning of Maths and English. This is done through the use of learning sciences, artificial intelligence, and neuroscience. The system identifies learner needs and constantly adapts suitable pathways. It provides powerful assessment data for teachers enabling them to track progress and understanding, supporting learners in a more targeted way.

The aims of the project are to improve the achievement rate of learners undertaking Maths and English qualifications, improve digital skills and improve teacher efficiency and wellbeing.

Developed prior to the emergence of COVID-19 - this project will also help support efforts to support learners who need to make up for time spent outside of formal education, assist in targeting learners and support capacity within the sector. Because the software can be accessed remotely learners can continue their studies from any location. This would ease the need to attend traditional classroom settings supporting any continuation of social distancing requirements. Furthermore, it is anticipated that additional adult learners will return to education due to redundancy and the need to update basic skills.

Funding Stream: Getting Building Fund (GBF)
GBF Awarded: £440K
Total Project Cost: £652K
Project Status: Completed May 2021
Projected Outputs: 5 new learning facilitators, Additional 325 learners per year, 975 additional learners gaining Maths or English qualifications
