Bedford Green Energy Innovation Park

Located on a 30-ha former landfill site, this exemplar model within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc will generate green, low carbon, clean energy to encourage others to reduce carbon emissions, adopt innovative technologies, and improve air quality.

The solar array project will kick start the green energy innovation park and the work over the next four years on the site could lead to substantial training and new job opportunities in the green energy and construction sectors. The power generated will be used on site and the intention is to supply local commerce with clean energy.

Project Status: Completed May 2022
Projected Outputs: 30.5 jobs, 30 Ha Brownfield land brought back into use, approx. 11000 tonnes of CO2 savings

• Lagoon at the top of Area 3 of southern slope was drained successfully through the onsite pump.
• Finn drain installation work completed in Area 3 of the southern slope.
• First layer of capping ongoing on Area 3 of southern slope.

May 2021

Work on capping the site is well advanced and the solar panels are due to be delivered in September 2021.
