2020 Finance Series: Preparing for Finance

Description:

David Bailey, Portfolio CFO will walk through the objectives and requirements of potential finance providers of debt, equity, grants and tax reliefs. Looking at:

  • the expectations of venture capital and angel investors, how they view returns, how their portfolios work, and the advantages that can be obtained from such friendly tax reliefs as Entrepreneurs’ Relief, SEIS, and EIS
  • likely timescales, additional dilution, and how equity returns are realised
  • debt finance and the expectations of lenders for security, additional security from individuals, interest repayments, capital repayments, covenants, cash generation, and repayment clauses
  • grants, and how they usually need to be matched by other funding, and quite often are only for capital expenditure or creation of jobs
  • tax reliefs such as R&D, capital allowances
  • due diligence requirements and the necessity of being organised before applying

Kirsty Simmons, Senior Associate at EMW Law will cover the legal aspects of the requirements, giving a brief overview of due diligence and legal matters.
