What is FORS?

The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is an accreditation scheme that's been designed to recognise good practice among fleet operators. It's based on the principles of safety, efficiency and professional development, with requirements that have been developed to be relevant to those who operate a car, van, bus, coach, truck or road-going plant, and for anyone from an owner operator right through to multi-nationals and heavy haulage.

It is fast becoming the National Standard for fleet operators, now with over 4000 accredited companies in the UK and Europe. The overarching ambition of FORS is to raise and maintain operator standards and recognise good practice through the provision of (sometimes free) training, services, publications and discounts offered to members.

FORS also applies to those who buy transport services, with many lead contractors now requiring their sub-contractors to be FORS accredited. Local Authorities have also started to recognise the benefits of FORS as a way of reducing the risk of incidents on their roads through driver education, higher specification vehicles and improved working practices.
