A celebration of skills across the South East Midlands

21 January 2015

The region’s largest business to business exhibition will take place in April, with over 3,500 delegates from across the South East Midlands set to attend.

This year the Business Expo 3.0 South East Midlands is being organised in partnership with the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) thanks to funding from the European Social Fund and Skills Funding Agency*.

The day-long event takes place at the Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey on Wednesday, 29th April, with SEMLEP running a series of skills themed workshops and interactive sessions to enable businesses to think more creatively about how education, training and apprenticeships can support business growth.

Skills advisors from SEMLEP’s Velocity business support programme will also be on hand to provide one to one advice and support to businesses and training providers.

Working in partnership with Business Expo Live, SEMLEP will also hold an invitation only celebration event at Woburn Abbey two days before the Expo, which will showcase and celebrate employee achievements of our resident businesses.

Short, bite-sized videos, being commissioned by SEMLEP, will be played at both the evening event and Expo, designed to highlight some of the barriers that individuals and companies have overcome together with the business benefits of investing in skills.

Lindsay Mitton, Head of Enterprise at SEMLEP, said: “Our recent business survey reported that over a third of South East Midlands businesses have skills gaps within their existing workforce and 63% have found it difficult to recruit.

“SEMLEP is committed to developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of a growing economy. These exciting events will celebrate and showcase outstanding examples of businesses across the South East Midlands who have invested in skills development, found innovative or creative ways to overcomes skills issues, recruitment challenges or have perhaps overcome significant culture change in their organisation to enable growth.”

  • Do you want to nominate an individual or group of employees at your business to be featured in one of SEMLEP’s skills celebration films? The films will be screened at the evening celebration event on 27th April, the Expo itself on the 29th April and will continue to be showcased nationally as outstanding examples of skills investment. Businesses featured will be invited to attend SEMLEP’s evening event on 27th April. Please email Lindsay.Mitton@semlep.com.
