New Acting CEO Hilary Chipping takes the helm

15 September 2015

Head of infrastructure Hilary Chipping has stepped up this week as acting Chief Executive at SEMLEP.

Daniel Mouawad, CEO at SEMLEP for the last two-and-a-half years, has volunteered, along with his wife and two daughters, to work for an educational charity in India for the next three years.  The former senior diplomat and city strategist marked his final day at the executive helm by attending today's SEMLEP board meeting, where directors wished him well with his new challenge.

Daniel said, "I am excited about my family's new challenge, though I will miss SEMLEP and our collective achievements. It has been a remarkably stimulating few years and I wish Hilary and the teamall the best with their future endeavors. I am delighted to confirm that I will now become SEMLEP's first international envoy, so I will continue to be an ambassador for the South East Midlands during my years in India."

Hilary, previously a senior civil servant in both the Department of Communities and Local Government and the Department for Transport, will now lead the SEMLEP team.  Priorities will include delivering investment through the Local Growth Deal, overseeing the rollout of European Funds and continuing to build on the success of the LEP's business growth hub Velocity, which was recently unveiled as one of the best performing hubs in the country.

Commenting on Hilary's appointment Dr Ann Limb, CBE DL, Chair of SEMLEP, said: "Hilary is the natural successor and we are delighted that she will be heading up our team.  She is passionate about the South East Midlands and has helped SEMLEP secure millions of pounds for the area, the result of hours and hours of dedication - gathering evidence and working closely with local authority, public and private sector partners.

The offical recruitment process for a new Chief Executive is now underway.
