Housing Infrastructure Fund - Central Bedfordshire

13 December 2019

Central Bedfordshire Council has been awarded £70m for a new 132kV substation and housing infrastructure project from the Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The project will enable an additional 80MW with 160MW of capacity available for future demand, enabling 3,000 new homes.

The South East Midlands Energy Strategy identified substation constraints as a major barrier to further development, and thus projects of this nature are particularly important for further growth.

The Greater South East Energy Hub is working with UKPN to get a data-sharing agreement with Local Authorities so that SEMLEP and the Energy Hub can share knowledge and take a broader approach to reinforcement.
