Local businesses blazing a trail National Apprenticeship Show 2019

This year’s National Apprenticeship Week and the National Apprenticeship Show showcased all the incredible opportunities that an apprenticeship can offer, both for individuals firing up their careers and for employers blazing a trail.

SEMLEP exhibited at the National Apprenticeship Show in Milton Keynes, sharing the stand with South East Midland’s based businesses: Nifty Lift, MAHLE Powertrain, CILEx Law School, NITAL, Central Bedfordshire College and Central Bedfordshire Council.

At the event, people had the opportunity to discuss the local apprenticeship opportunities directly with employers, apprenticeship training providers and apprenticeship champions. Key themes that emerged from the event included:

Benefit – employers highlighted that since employing an apprentice, their business productivity and employee satisfaction improved.

Learn – employers had the opportunity to share their experiences and best practice in delivering a quality apprenticeship and working with training providers

Aspire current apprentices exhibiting at the event shared their experiences and achievements, showing the future workforce the possibilities e.g. gaining a qualification, developing skills and improving their confidence.

Zest – the show was bursting with enthusiasm, curiosity, and an appetite to learn.

Energise – the energy at the event showed the enthusiasm around apprenticeships within the South East Midlands. Employers felt that apprentices have had a significant impact on their business, with attendees being keen to find out more information about local opportunities.

Paul Thompson, Employer and Skills Manager at SEMLEP said: Apprenticeships can open up many options for people both entering and within work. The opportunity to develop important skills such as effective communication, problem solving, digital and teamworking skills through an apprenticeship, brings immediate benefits to both the individual and employer. The different apprenticeship levels offer a progression route to retain people in the business and prove to be a good return on investment.
