Cllr Martin Griffiths

Leader, Borough Council of Wellingborough

Councillor Martin Griffiths was born in Northamptonshire and has spent all of his life as a resident, with the last 25 years in the Borough of Wellingborough (BCW). He is truly devoted to and proud of his home county and has represented its citizens since 2007, firstly as a borough councillor and then in 2017 also as a county councillor.

He has been the leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough (BCW) since 2016, taking over after a year of being the deputy. He is a dedicated public servant and works hard to deliver for the residents of the borough and over recent months has been heavily involved in the local government reform (LGR) taking place in Northamptonshire.

He is currently the chair of the North Northants Joint Committee established to implement the transition to unitary status in 2021. His two key priorities for his borough are to ensure that housing is available for all those that need it and that the town centre is regenerated to ensure it has a sustainable future. He represents the borough on the local Town Centre Partnership.

Martin has served on numerous committees over the last 12 years and is currently a member of the Northamptonshire Police and Fire Panel, the North Northamptonshire Joint planning and delivery unit, chair of the Resources Committee at BCW as well as being on their Planning Committee, Standards Committee, Appointments and Investigating and Disciplinary Committee, LGR Sub-Committee, Arts and Leisure Sub-Committee, Parishes Forum and the Voluntary Sector Funding Working Group.

He is actively involved in local and national politics and is a strong advocate for growth and economic prosperity in the area, with a particular interest in local infrastructure projects.

Martin is also a supporter of the arts and a keen follower of sports. This is reflected in his work to ensure that the local theatre remained a viable asset for the community and the recent opening of improved sports facilities in the borough.
