Planning secured for LGF-funded Vulcan Works

19 April 2017

A £12.4million SEMLEP-backed scheme to convert a disused Grade Two listed ironworks and a number of run-down buildings into a cultural hub in the centre of Northampton has been given planning permission.

The plans will see the former Vulcan Works turned into an Institute for Creative Leather Technologies and Leather Conservation Centre - part-funded by money secured by SEMLEP through the Local Growth Deal.

The buildings between Guildhall Street, Fetter Street and Angel Street were once central to the town's shoe trade and will now be given a new lease of life, creating space for up to 300 jobs in the cultural and creative industries.

Northampton Borough Council has now given planning permission for the scheme and it is hoped construction work will start later this year.
