Education and Training Providers

Young people are required to remain in education or training, or employment with training until their 18th birthday. There are lots of options available to choose from - so what are they?

  • Sixth form: this is staying on at a school's sixth form or sixth form college after year 11 to study A-levels and/or a Level 3 BTEC course for two years.
  • College: at a college, you can study vocational subjects like engineering, health and social care, construction, or hair-dressing for example. Courses are available from entry level to level three.
  • Apprenticeships: this is full time employment, with training, where you'll learn work-based skills on-the-job. You'll usually attend a college for one day a week.
  • Alternative or independent provision: there is other specialist post-16 provision available if sixth form, college or an apprenticeship isn't right.

Click on the areas in the map below to see what's available locally.
