Government announces new investment through Towns Fund

6 September 2019

Today, Local Government Secretary Rt Hon. Robert Jenrick MP has announced investment of up to £25million for 100 places across the country, with Bedford, Corby, Milton Keynes and Northampton in the South East Midlands among the towns included in this round of funding.

Local Government Secretary, Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP, said, "Ensuring that prosperity and opportunities are available to everyone in this country, not just those in London or our biggest cities, is at the heart of the mission of this government.

"We want to level-up our great towns, raising living standards and ensuring they can thrive with transformative investment in transport, technology, skills and culture."

Hilary Chipping, SEMLEP's Chief Executive said, "We welcome that news that communities in the South East Midlands area will benefit from today’s new Town Deal announcement. We await the publication of the prospectus that will provide further detail about this funding and will support the local councils in the development of their proposals.

"We will work closely with other areas in the South East Midlands on other funding opportunities and make the case for continued investment in creating the good quality places where people want to live and work."
