Making the connection

28 June 2019

Andrew Lewer MP, hosting SEMLEP Business Ambassador reception at House of Commons, 25 June 2019 Business Ambassador reception

At the House of Commons on 25 June, business leaders and politicians discussed the growing strength of the South East Midlands economy. Andrew Lewer, MP for Northampton South, on behalf of SEMLEP, hosted an Ambassador reception to launch a new prospectus, South East Midlands: make the connection. This highlights the region’s innovation, connectivity and unique environment that is furthering the area’s success.

It is timely, coming just before the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership launches the Local Industrial Strategy, jointly with the Government, in July.

Peter Horrocks CBE, Chair of SEMLEP said, “It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout from local businesses, politicians and MPs to celebrate the achievements of the SEMLEP economy. There was impressive determination from all to power the area even faster forward.”

Andrew Lewer MP said, “The South East Midlands region has such an important role to play in making the Oxford-Cambridge Arc area a success. We need to get the message out to local businesses about the benefits of growth through more investment, more jobs and new opportunities. Local businesses in Northampton and the South East Midlands cannot stand idly by and ignore such a powerful economic engine being built in our own backyard. They are central to creating it. I am determined to use every bit of influence as an MP to make sure we get maximum benefit from this once in a generation opportunity by working collaboratively with all our partners and driving the right investment into achieving successful, sustainable growth that benefits our local communities.”
