Finding a job: First points of contact

Whether you've regrettably been made redundant or you're looking for a new career opportunity, we've collected local and national resources to help you.

Despite the pandemic, there are still a lot of employment opportunities in the South East Midlands. As of September 2020, the area had the highest number of vaccines per hundred working-age residents in the workforce, and the largest percentage increase of vacancies in the country from July to August.

JobCentre Plus is a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)-funded employment agency. Its purpose is to help people find work, while also providing financial support to eligible job hunters to help remove barriers to work. The Centre runs a range of programmes to include people to get back into work, including sector-based work academies for the unemployed.

The sector-based work academies provide a short period of pre-employment training, work experience and in some instances guaranteed job interviews to support people into work via a specific job role or job sector opportunity.

These academies are delivered regularly across a range of job sectors, such as:

  • Hospitality
  • Security
  • Construction
  • Business Administration
  • Social & Adult Care

To support participants, JobCentre Plus can provide reasonable travel costs.

Please contact your Work Coach or Jobcentre direct for current opportunities.
