Flagship event to showcase strength of UK engineering

29 June 2015

A major event will bring together some of the biggest names in engineering, highlighting the UK’s strength in multi-discipline high performance technology, including motorsport, automotive and linked sectors.  The second annual ‘Driving Technological Change’ event will take place on Wednesday 1st July at Silverstone circuit.

Hosted by Joe Greenwell, CEO, Automotive Investment Organisation and former Chairman of Ford, the event will celebrate the major significance of the UK’s motorsport, automotive, and engineering industry to a national and international audience; as well as looking at new opportunities for growth.

Organised by eight Local Enterprise Partnerships and multiple industry partners, the event will host companies from across several regions, including a unique concentration of multiple disciplined engineering businesses.

Leading experts in the field will be delivering seminars based on the transferability of technologies. Major topics include how motorsport technology is driving innovation in the wider automotive sector and beyond, with intelligent transport networks and autonomous vehicles, new powertrain technology, the evolution of engine downsizing, advances in energy capture and the application of smart components and materials, as well as government support for new technologies.

Attending companies will be able to ‘meet the buyer’, a unique opportunity to network with  international visiting companies, who will also be taking part in a three day technology tour, meeting leading UK engineering companies with complementary specialisms including Prodrive, MAHLE Powertain, Cosworth and Mercedes AMP HPP.

Joe Greenwell, CEO, Automotive Investment Organisation and host of the event, says “Last year’s event proved to be extremely successful, generating over £2million worth of investment.  ‘Driving Technological Change’ is an ideal platform to showcase the strength of our engineering sector on an international scale. With local enterprise partnerships helping to drive business growth and investment I’m sure that the UK will continue to be a global leader in innovation.”
