Looking back - a year of achievements

3 December 2015

Rt. Hon. Anna Soubry MP, Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise visits Niftylift Ltd in Milton Keynes

SEMLEP has had another very busy and exciting year with much progress in a number of areas. We started 2015 with a visit from the Rt. Hon. Greg Clark MP to sign our Local Growth Deal of £79.3m for 2015/16 at the Transport Systems Catapult in Milton Keynes. This has enabled us to start on a number of key infrastructure projects as set out below.

At the end of January, we were pleased to host a visit from Communities Minister Stephen Williams to the Higgins Art Gallery and Museum in Bedford to announce a further £46.7m of Local Growth Fund resources for 2016/17. This has now been confirmed in the recent Autumn Statement.

In April, over 150 businesses and partners gathered at Woburn Abbey for a Skills Celebration funded by the Skills Funding Agency. This event showcased outstanding examples of employee achievement featuring companies such as Liebherr-Great Britain, Selex ES and DHL Argos.

The Velocity Growth Hub has continued to deliver business support and grants for small and medium-sized businesses and won an award as the best performing growth hub amongst the 22 established in 2014.

In September, SEMLEP was very sorry to say goodbye to Daniel Mouawad who had been our Chief Executive since April 2013, leading us through so many successful achievements.

In November, we were delighted to host a visit from the Rt. Hon. Anna Soubry MP, Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise to Niftylift Ltd in Milton Keynes where Anna met a number of our successful women entrepreneurs and SMEs who had benefited from the grants available from the Velocity Growth Hub.
