SEMLEP recruiting for a new CEO

15 December 2015

SEMLEP Chair Dr Ann Limb CBE DL

This is a very challenging and yet rewarding role. There is a lot to achieve with limited resources, but the ultimate goal of enabling economic growth and improved productivity for the businesses and communities in the south east Midlands is well worth the effort.

SEMLEP set out its vision in 2012 of becoming one of the most innovative, successful and high performing economies in England by 2020. In the space of a few years SEMLEP has established itself as 4th amongst the 39 LEPs alongside London with 4% growth in GVA in 2013 - Greater Manchester showed the highest growth. In terms of Foreign Direct Investment SEMLEP was third in 2014 behind Birmingham and Manchester.

This part of the country has previously been pulled in three directions. Northamptonshire was part of the former East Midlands, Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton were part of the east of England and Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Vale part of the south east. The evidence base that was assembled in 2011 to make the case for the creation of the South East Midlands LEP demonstrated that this is a functional economic area. Our challenge is to link up the large and medium sized towns of Milton Keynes, Northampton, Kettering, Corby, Bedford, Luton, Aylesbury, Bicester and Banbury and the extensive rural areas to enable them to deliver economic growth to their full potential.
