Radical reforms to post-16 technical education published

16 August 2016

This summer two key reports have been published by Government outlining a radical reform to post-16 technical education.

The two reports are:

1. One by the independent panel on technical education, chaired by Lord David Sainsbury

2. The Government’s Skills Plan, which responds to the panel’s recommendations and sets out an overarching framework for a reformed skills system.

The Skills Plan presents a vision of a radically simplified system, with students presented with the clear choice of a high quality technical option at age 16, alongside the already highly regarded academic option.

Building on the apprenticeships reform, the technical option will provide students with a clear line of sight from education into skilled employment.
