Universities Mean Business event

2 April 2016

Universities are proving they mean business, joining forces to meet and support locally based businesses at an exclusive event organised by the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP).

The ‘Universities Mean Business’ event, organised in partnership with SEMLEP’s Velocity Growth Hub which supports small to medium sized businesses across the South East Midlands, is set to take place on Wednesday, June 1st and will be hosted by Cranfield University.

An expert panel from universities in the South East Midlands – Cranfield University, The Open University, The University of Northampton, University of Buckingham, University of Bedfordshire and UCMK – will cover topics including Smart Cities, technology, cyber security, lean management and people and productivity.

The Universities will emphasise their potential as well as desire to support local businesses in becoming more competitive and innovative. Delegates, expected to be largely small and medium sized companies, will also learn how best to connect and extract value from knowledge transfer opportunities and about new funding opportunities, innovation, collaboration, entrepreneurship and growth.

SEMLEP’s new Chief Executive Stephen Catchpole will close the event.

There is capacity for up to 200 businesses. To register for this free of charge event please click HERE.

Businesses interested in paying to have a stand at this event can email SEMLEP here: Sandra.overbury@semlep.com

  • Collectively, the seven universities in the South East Midlands generate a combined annual income exceeding £928 million (2012/13) through their higher education, innovation and research activities making them an economically active and vital part of our locality. The seven universities already work closely together, having formed the South East Midlands Universities Group known as "SEMU".  They work together to support business and jobs growth across key sectors, including aerospace, automotive engineering, bioscience, defence and security, energy, environment and manufacturing sectors, creative arts, leather technologies and logistics.
