Passion

16 April 2019

Europa Components has been supplying electrical components to wholesalers since 1974 and has been supplying careers advice to local schools since 2017.

“A responsibility to give back”

David Sheridan, Chair of Europa Components has been involved in delivering careers advice for many years, joining the Enterprise Adviser Network in 2017.

“Before joining the Enterprise Adviser Network, I travelled around to 40 schools across the country and delivered activities aimed at inspiring sixth-form students about the world of work.”

“I joined the network to raise young people’s ambitions and support them to find the right career path for them. I feel that as a local employer, I have a responsibility to help develop and inspire the future workforce.”

“Polite, interested and engaged”

David has participated in a range of careers events including mock interviews, career workshops and careers fairs. Helping students to get a better understanding of the ‘world of work’.

“A common misconception portrayed by the media would be that students are mis-behaved, unengaged and uninterested. It couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve worked with hundreds of students and they have all been polite, interested and engaged in careers.”

“Encouraging young people to raise their ambitions”

By working with local schools David has been able to develop personally, develop the future workforce and develop his understanding of the issues young people face when seeking employment.

“Knowing that you have used your expertise and knowledge to give back to the community is an amazing feeling. With so many young people unsure of the right career for them, our encounters can shape their futures.”

“Passion. It’s doesn’t matter what career path you follow. If you have a passion for it, you’ll be fantastic at it.”
